Paint and Reconditioning
People tend to think that vehicle painting is a one-step process, similar to painting a living room or a small piece of furniture. The truth is, painting a vehicle requires extensive training, expertise and precision. Our team at Preston Collision Centers is the best in the business and will take great pride in painting and reconditioning your vehicle.
Our Paint Process
What most don’t realize is that painting vehicles is a true art form that requires extensive training, expertise, and precision. At Preston, we have that expertise. Our passion for and dedication to restoring vehicle paint properly is another intangible that sets Preston Collision Centers apart from other body shops in Geauga County. Whether you need your entire vehicle painted or just a panel, we have you covered.
So, how do we get your vehicle’s paint back to factory shape? Our certified painters begin this process by assessing and repairing the damaged area. In some cases, this may require additional parts – new bumpers, fenders or panels – to ensure the repair meets OEM standards.
Once the damaged area is repaired, our team will clean it thoroughly. This includes wiping away debris, excess grease or dirt, and any other material that could compromise the finished product. Next, we will apply a primer and allow it to cure. When the primer cures, it is sanded down to create a smooth surface and wiped free of any debris that was left behind. The base coat is mixed at this point – and unlike other body and paint shops in the area, our team utilizes the latest technology directly from your car’s manufacturer, allowing us to match the paint for your vehicle correctly.
When you look at a car, what is the first thing you tend to notice? Most would say the color, so it’s safe to guess that the first impression your car makes is tied to its visible condition. If your paint has scratches, is chipped, suffers from oxidation, or has any visible damage – even from a minor dent – it can really make an impact on the look. Unlike most body shops, Preston Collision Centers leads a team of I-CAR Gold Class Certified technicians who only use genuine OEM parts rated at or above factory standards, including proper paint codes to get the exact color of your vehicle. This will ensure that any damaged fenders, quarter panels, bumpers or other body parts all match and meet the brand-specific standards of your vehicle.
Applying the Paint
Once your base coat is created and properly matched, it’s time to paint! Our painters will apply the base coat, ensuring that it is spread evenly and to the factory look – no drips or overspray. Once it dries, a top coat (or clear coat) is applied to give your vehicle that glossy appearance. The clear coat also gives the base coat a deeper pigment and really makes it pop.
The Final Step
The final step is the most important – quality check. While our team performs quality checks after each coat is applied, this final analysis allows us to identify any outstanding blemishes that can be polished or sanded down to achieve that perfect factory look. Between our I-CAR Gold Class facility and brand-certified painters, you won’t find a better repair shop to handle your auto painting needs. Whether your car has a small scratch or major oxidation, our team has the proper training and tools to repaint and recondition your vehicle – no shortcuts taken.
